Release Carnival is supported by…
Michael Bond: (who has kindly forwarded this comment from Paddington Bear)“Whenever I hear about children from foreign countries being put into detention centres, I think how lucky I am to be living at number 32 Windsor Gardens with such nice people as Mr. and Mrs. Brown. Mrs. Bird, who looks after the Browns, says if she had her way she would set the children free and lock up a few politicians in their place to see how they liked it!”

From ECDN: ‘End Child Detention Now sends its warm support to everyone celebrating International Children’s Day at the Release Carnival by demanding an end to child detention in Britain’s immigration prisons. Every child has the right to freedom, love and a place to call home. Let’s make sure that privatised jails like Dungavel and Yarl’s Wood are never again home to these innocent young lives‘.

Colin Firth:
Dear Release Carnival,
I’m afraid I will be away in Italy on the day of the Carnival and march. So sorry I won’t be able to attend.
Congratulations on getting all this together; such an important initiative. The website is very powerful.
I hope the event gets the attention it deserves. I’ll spread the word.
Best wishes,
Colin
Ken Loach:
The care and protection of children is something every civilized society should make a priority. Yet the treatment of children and families in detention centres like Yarls Wood and Dungavel is shameful. It is hard to understand how people can be so cruel and then go home to their own families. Well done to all who have organised this demonstration, sooner or later I’m sure you will succeed. Best wishes and solidarity, Ken Loach.
